Health Related Goals In Sdg
The agenda consists of 17 sustainable development goals sdgs that member states aim to achieve by 2030.
Health related goals in sdg. But the world is off track to achieve the health related sdgs. The goals within a goal. The overall goal to leave no one behind is particularly important for health and related not only to sdg 1 on poverty but to broader inequalities as indicated through sdg 11 and is closely linked to gender inequalities as indicated in sdg 5.
With this tool users can explore progress made toward achieving the united nations sustainable development goals sdgs. Measure progress made by 195 countries and territories from 1990 to 2017 and projecting attainment to 2030 toward 41 health related indicators. Each target has one or two proposed indicators with the exception of sdg target 3 3.
Table 2 health related targets under other goals in the open working group sustainable development goal proposal full size table while some may be concerned that health has seemingly loss prominence since it has dropped from 3 out of 8 goals in the mdgs to 1 out of 17 in the sdgs we believe that this is an unwarranted concern 12. See how countries have progressed over time. The health goal sdg 3 comprises 13 targets including four listed as means of implementation targets.
Goal 3 focuses explicitly on health. Health targets for sdg 3 3 1 by 2030 reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100 000 live births. 3 2 by 2030 end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1000 live births and under 5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1000 live births.
Emerging global health priorities not explicitly included in the sdgs including antimicrobial resistance also demand action. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand in hand with strategies that improve health and education reduce inequality and spur economic growth all while tackling. Universal health coverage will be integral to achieving sdg 3 ending poverty and reducing inequalities.
Health has a central position in the agenda through sdg 3 and is closely linked to over a dozen targets in other goals related to urban health equal access to treatments and non communicable diseases among others.
